The 2 mV output Hana MH is the higher output cartridge from the Hana M Series. This is high enough output that the cartridge will work well with entry level quality phono stages from Rega and Pro-ject in the $150-400 range. It will also work with the built-in phono stages from most entry level quality preamplifiers and integrateds.
Hana MH and HL moving coil feature a brass based Delrin body and cryogenically treated high-purity copper parts and wires. Both have a microline ridge stylus giving the ability to track very fine grooves very quickly and yielding excellent detail in the mid/higher frequencies. A consideration when putting a microline cartridge is that your turntable has a high degree of cartridge position adjustability in all planes and (most importantly) very high grade bearings and a strong low-vibration operating environment where the needle meets the vinyl.
Some good turntables / tonearms for this cartridge would be theMcIntosh MT-5, theLuxman PD-171A, or the LinnMajik LP12, andAkurate LP12. A Rega Planar 8 or 10 would work from a bearing quality perspective, but consideration must be taken due to the RB-880 and RB-2000 tonearms fixed height which may be changed increments of 2 mm using standard Rega Shims, which is more coarse than optimal.
Hana cartridges by Excel represent the best materials, including alnico magnets, cross-shaped armatures, and proprietary manufacturing processes. Hana has excelled at creating MC cartridges noted worldwide for their sound and value, which retain their “musical magic” regardless of their phono stage pairing.
